The news came this morning about the slaughter in Las Vegas.

Really? I'm twenty times less likely to be killed by firearms here in Europe. And I don't feel a bit constrained. Wasn't it even a rule in the old Wild West that you checked your guns at the town limits?
My most memorable experience in Haarlem was visiting the Corrie Ten Boom house. She and her family hid Jews as members of the Resistance. Corrie survived her incarceration in a concentration camp due only to a clerical error.
