Wow, we get to sleep in until after 6 this morning and then its our final breakfast at the lodge. Our return boat ride on the Rio Napo is a bit adventurous as the water level in the river has dropped dramatically since we've arrive. The weather has been unusually dry for the Amazon and you have to wonder how global warming is going to affect this region in the future. Our boat hits quite a few shallow sand bars on the way back and at one point we become completely stuck and our driver has to shift the boat from left to right until we eventually get free.
After a ride on the top of the bus, we fly out of the town of Coca back to Quito and arrive in the early afternoon. We've enjoyed our time with our fellow jungle mates so much that we all get together in Quito for one last farewell dinner. We go out for more traditional Ecuadorian food, but I'm wiser now and avoid nasty items such as tripe and guinea pig! It's a sad farewell, but I'm sure we'll all keep in touch.
