DARWIN - Monday 6th November to Tuesday 7th November (Days 10 - 11)
Monday 6th November
Had a 3 hour flight from Perth to the "Top End", Darwin in the Northern Territory. At this time of year temperatures and humidity begin to rise - the dreaded "build up", causing people go "Troppo". One answer to stop this happening is to drink plenty of beer! Great for me but Gill doesn't drink, I'll just have to keep an eye on her! Anyway we arrived to a temperature of 32c but a lowish 50% humidity. Still it called for a splash in the hotel pool. The sun setting over Darwin harbour was spectactular.
Tuesday 7th November
The humidty had risen alot over night but we ventured out of the air conditioned environs of our hotel and set off on a self guided walk around Darwin. Fortunately we were well prepared with hats, water, and suntan lotion. By 10 am it was blisteringly hot, and by the end of our walk an hour later we had both nearly melted!!!! We staggerd back into the hotel looking something like the final scene from the film Ice-Cold in Alex (the bit where they stagger into the hotel bar and order a beer). Who sorted out this itinerary anyway, Top End of Oz in their hottest month of the year? Unfortunately it was likely to be hotter in the bush that we were going to enter for the next 3 days!!!!
