It continues to be very hot on this holiday - again in the mid 30's. Still, that's much better than the 12 degrees in Melbourne.
Early this morning we walked from our accommodation across the bridge to the main walled city of Avignon. We found a lovely bakery in the old city for breakfast then found our way to the old Papal Palace. This is where the Popes found refuge in the 1300's and established a fantastic palace over many years before eventually returning to Italy. The outside structure looks magnificent but internally there isn't much left other than bare walls and a few of the old decorations. We did the tour and then walked along the ramparts until we got to the other major tourist attraction of this city - the bridge that now only reaches part way across the river. This famous medieval bridge from the 1100's was destroyed by flood leaving only part still standing offering great views of the Rhone.
