Part of the Walled City, Derry

Looking down to the Bogside where protests occurred, Derry

One of the Troubles Murals

Another of The Troubles Murals

Such an interesting area

A 2 hour drive up the road today to Londonderry (Derry). We joined a walking tour with a fellow named John who gave us an excellent insight into the incredible political history of this city. We then went to the Museum of Free Derry. Very thought provoking and sad as we wandered around the ‘Bogside’ area where the Bloody Sunday protests and massacre happened in 1972.

We then drove another couple of hours along the coast and are spending the night in Coleraine. Almost had to sleep in the car, or drive back to Derry, as we couldn’t find any accommodation as this smallish town is the starting point of the Causeway Coast however luck struck on my last phone call and we landed a room in a B&B following a cancellation. Phew. That will teach us to ‘wing it’. We figured it might be safer to book ahead from now on :)
