|062108 - Today we drove from Richmond to our next stop near Gettysburg, PA. Overall we had a pretty smooth trip. Rather than take highways, we decided to take back roads which extended the duration of the leg, but afforded us the opportunity to make some interesting stops.
Our first stop was at the Stonewall Jackson Shrine. It was an interesting experience to see the very bed in which he died and listen to the clock that ticked away in the background during his final moments. After a few pictures were were back on the road to Manassas, VA where we stopped at the local musem to learn more about the two battles of Bull Run. More guns, cannons, and fascinating words.
We stopped for an oil change and lunch. The only place within walking distance of the dealership was a Chiness buffet. Keane went to town. Had to put the breaks on after 5 plates.
On the way to the campground we stopped at Gettysburg. I wanted the boys to get a preview of the area we will explore in more detail on Monday. They were impressed with the size of the battlefield. After spending 30 minutes hunting for relics (well not really because it is not allowed) we advanced to the campground.
Neil is still ill, but able to whip me at chess. I am keeping him hydrated and hope he gets this behind him soon.
We played football at camp in an attempt to get Keane moving to help work off the large lunch.
