|The joys of packing were back again as we made ready to check out of the motel and get on the road back to Auckland. It's not a long trip but Ian & Audrey wanted to get away before 9am so breakfast was about 8am.
The weather had changed for the worse and it was a steady drizzle most of the way down. Thank goodness it had waited until now as the trip to Cape Reinga would not have been so good in bad weather.
The roads were busy with numerous trucks and very few passing lanes so it was a little slower than we had hoped. We stopped for coffee in Wellsford and then we drove through Orewa before diverting to Silverdale outlet village. The ocean at Orewa was perfectly flat which apparently is most unusual.
As we approached Auckland the grey clouds were heavy and it looked like a tropical storm so we drove to a new shopping centre, Sylvia park, undercover for lunch which was not far from the motel.
In the evening Lynette and Lance, Ian & Audrey's daughter and son in law who we knew from our time in Lower Hutt, joined us for dinner and then we were back packing for the flight tomorrow to Wellington.
It's been a great week with Ian & Audrey and lovely to meet up with them again and see all the sights of Northland with them.
