Sarah and Denis Round the World travel blog

We changed boats at Ko Phi Phi on the way to Ko...

This island is the bigger one called "Phi Phi Don"

This wasn't where The Beach was filmed

It was filmed on the second biggest island in the group -...

Called "Phi Phi Lay"

Locally known as "Phi Phi Laaaaaayyyyyy" & "Phi Phi Donnnnnnnnnnnn"

We are in Ko Lanta now and have just finished day three of our four day diving course. We are really enjoying it and both passed the exam yesterday (S 96 percent, D 98 percent). The island is really peaceful and despite all the hotels being full on the island there is no-one around - there are no rows of sunbeds on the beach, no obvious loud discos (though hoping to find one for tommorrow night) and gorgeous sunsets. Sadly there are no fast internet connections on the island, so we have not taken any photos of them yet. Also, as we don't have a waterproof case for our camera so we can't photo the fish we have seen which include - triggerfish, parrotfish, clownfish, porcupinefish, moray eel, garden eel, grouper, snapper, tuna, flutemouth...

We will probably stay here until the 4th Jan after finishing the course as Lanta is everything you would want from a tropical island. Then back to Phuket - hoping to do a sea canoe trip on the 5th and then we fly back to Bangkok on the 6th to obtain Vietnamese visas and do Thai massage course.

Big thankyou to Leah & Barry (& Ben) for putting us up over Christmas and for letting us borrow your car despite knowing that Denis drove into a tree when last in Thailand 5 years ago.

Quality solid. Photos to follow when we can find a faster connection. (Finally on 12/1/04)
