KAPOORS ON THE ROAD
Our contractor told us that they would need at least two weeks to complete the renovations to our condo (painting throughout, new carpeting, and baseboards as well has some electrical changes) so we used a gift certificate we had bid for and won at a recent fundraiser for the Iyengar Yoga Centre where we practice yoga on a regular basis.
The certificate was for one night at the Chateau Victoria, a hotel near the Inner Harbour, one that seems to be very popular with tourists. We booked the room for the last night we needed to be away, and drove into Victoria and pulled into the hotel parking lot. It seemed very strange not to head to our condo after living in it for almost a year and a half.
I was disappointed that the room we were assigned was not one that had been recently renovated – it was large and had a terrific view – but it didn’t look at all like the photos on the hotel website. I can only imagine how foreign tourists must feel if they were given that room, seeing how dated it was. I guess we couldn’t complain as we paid only about one third of the going summer rate for a downtown hotel – when we bid on the gift certificate.
We were up and out early, eager to see our condo now that all the renovations were complete. We could now call it ‘our home’ as it was no longer decorated in colours chosen by the previous owners.
