|Back over to the east coast to Dunedin - a city founded by emigrants from Edinburgh but which feels more like San Francisco as it has so many hills and steep streets. The day before our arrival the city had flash floods when several inches of rain fell in twenty minutes- but all is back to normal when we arrive.
The city has a few nice buildings and some good restaurants but the highlight of the area is the Otago Peninsula across the bay from the city.
One of the peninsulas more unusual occupants is a colony of Royal Albatross - the only mainland location in the world where they breed. Huge birds with a ten foot wingspan. We do the tour of the colony which is really interesting and also visit Larnach Castle - New Zealand's only castle (even if it was only built in 1870 something).
