Travelling Amy travel blog

was so sad to leave san pedro!..had such a good 2 weeks there and met so many cool people..i could've stayed a lot lot longer but was time to move on and am so excited about seeing my friends in mexico that i didn't mind leaving too much...

..i won't really miss my school or studying spanish as had enough of it for now - but will take it up again for a few more lessons later on maybe in costa rica...i think am improving slowly but it's just so hard to practice conversations as everyone you meet speaks english!..i know more than enough to get by for travelling though i think now, so thats the main thing...

i took the boat over to panajchel with john and stacy...stacy is still so sick it's pretty worrying, (she has a parasite infection in her intestines - gross) but she thinks she can make the journey back to antigua now where they can see better doctors..or failing that they are just going to go home..she's been ill for 10days now and not really got any better..its a real shame, but hopefully she will make a recovery so they don't have to go back home...

although i didn't think that any of us were going to survive the boat ride to pana at one point..the lake was so rough and we were all in this little tiny crappy wooden boat which was being flown around all over the place...i thought we were going to either capsize and drown or i'd break my spine from sitting on the hardest wooden bench seat...i've been on some bad boat rides before but this was very hairy...especially when i counted 16 people on the boat and only 7 lifejackets...i managed to manouvere myself right next to one and had my hand on it ready to grab if we went over!...the journey was then made even worse by this guy then telling us all how bad the boat safety was in guatemala....poor stacy looked like she was actually about to die..but fortunately we all made it over in one piece!!

so i said goodbye again to john and stacy. really hoping i'll see them again in south america but not sure as depends on stacy's health - felt bad leaving them in such a bad situation when i'm so excited to be going to mexico and seeing my friends for lots of partying...but was nothing really i could do and am positive she'll make a full recovery soon.

so i spent my last night in guatemala alone in panajchel (or gringotenango as the locals call it as are so many tourists here!) is another lakeside hippy town but nowhere near as nice as san pedro...

..really excited about going to mexico and seeing a new country as much as i've loved guatemala...mexico is one of the country's i was looking forward to most on my travels so hope it lives up to my expectations!
