Maddren Family - Europe trip to Spain, France, Italy & England 2006 travel blog

We got up today and took off to Monte Carlo, about 1.5hrs from Plan de la Tour. A very small country run by the Grimaldi family for over 700 years. It is a tax-free haven for the very rich and famous so as you can imagine many very beautiful cars, boats and people. We took a tourist train, outside the aquarium, which takes you around the city, showing you places like the palace where Prince Albert and the Grimaldi family live, the Cathedral where Grace Kelly was married, the Hotel de Paris where all the famous people stay and of course the Casino. The F1 Grand Prix is to be held here in a couple of weeks so there is lots of preparation being done for it. It is a very beautiful city overlooking the Mediterranean and it was very friendly and nice to be a visitor in. It is also very safe as there is one policeman for every 60 people - impressive!

Back home we flew at 140km/hr, nothing out of the ordinary on these roads and a new Ferrari flew past us as we went along! When we got home to Robert and Brigitte's, Brigitte had prepared an exceptional traditional French meal of Fois Gras (which Kris helped her make two days before and is Duck liver marinated in port -Kris has the secret recipe!), Snails - oven baked in garlic and basil and Frogs legs. Unfortunately Tyler spent the night on the couch with a headache, which was a shame as he had so looked forward to trying snails, however Erin surprised herself (and us) by giving everything a go and she and Jacob really enjoyed the food.

Thank you Brigitte for a truely manifique French experience par excellence!!
