We flew into Lima after Colca Canyon, spent the night and then caught a 5 hour bus ride the next morning for the desert. We stayed the night last night in the tiny oasis town of Huacachina and went on a few winery and Pisco tours with two Irish girls. It was a bit of a shock to see their primitive wine making practices after touring some of our great wineries back home. This town is plunked in the middle of the desert and is centred around a small green colored lagoon.
This morning we went on a wild dune buggy ride through the desert and tried sand boarding down the dunes. The dunes are enormous and they drive like maniacs here! It was a pretty wild ride. Sand sticks awfully well to sun screen and after a few crashes on the sand boards, we were all covered from head to toe. So I'm still covered in sand as I write this final email and have a ton of things to do before leaving tonight. We`re keeping busy until the final minute! We`ve got a 3 00 bus to catch and won`t arrive back in Lima until about 8 30 tonight (given all goes well with the bus). Then its off to the airport for our midnight flight and home for tomorrow afternoon.
See you all soon.
