061608 - We woke up late this morning and immediately prepared for our self guided tour of the City. We packed our day packs and exited the building on River street. We walked towards the Mariott by several interesting shops desiged to extract cash from tourists. Given that I had not fed the monsters since dinner the previous evening we decided to have a late breakfast at a restraunt located in the old Cotton Exchange. We had a pretty good meal, but I continued to be plagued by my illness.

We continued our walk up River street admiring the merchant ships and toug boats in action. We walked back through a park adjacent to River Street enjoying the monuments and live oaks with Spanish moss.

We continued our walk to the Maratime museum which was closed so we continued up MLK Blvd towards the Savannah Museum. We spent a couple of hours in the museum. The boys saw several military weapons from the ages which allowed me to continue my lectures on the eveolution of small arms.

After the Savannah Museum we tried to get to the old train museum before it closed, but were unsuccessful. The kids tried to peak in and understand the layout of the old trainyard from the Georgia Pacific railroad. After that we went to the battlefield park which was the site of the battle for Savannah in 1779 which was the second bloodiest battle of the war after Bunker Hill.

In the late afternoon I began fealing ill again so we returned to the hotel and I went bac to bed. The kids enjoyed room service hamburgers for dinner. We had to get a good night rest in preparation for our next leg to Huntington Beach State Park in South Carolina.
