|The past week has been semi-sweet for us. While we are getting excited to "be on the road again," we are sad to have had to say goodbye to friends we have met during our time as hosts. Several couples we met throughout the summer, came to stay one more time so we could see them before we headed out. First were Craig and Linda who we hope to see on our way through town when we leave here. A great couple who are lots of fun and have great stories to tell. Then it was Bonnie and Delaine and Dave and Carol who are best friends and camp together throughout the summer. What a great time we had with them, lots of visiting, sharing "Reese's Peanut Butter Cookies," jokes, lots of laughs and a suggestion from Dave that we write a book about our experiences as hosts, as some of the stories are pretty funny! Lastly, came Skip and Tureza who like us, were ranchers so of course we had lots to visit with them about as well as Skip and Mike talking 'war stories' since they had both been in the military. Promising that we would all see each other soon, we promised to keep in touch and let them know when we'll be back in the area. Our area managers also left this week to head for southern California as Bob was having some health issues. We wish them safe travels and a speedy recovery. Loving to meet new people and making new friends was the absolute best part of our camp hosting here in NE Oregon and we met a lot of wonderful people...just some that we really connected with on a personal level. It will soon be time to say our goodbyes to the couples we have worked with all summer and also made friends with. We expect to have a busy Labor Day weekend although according tot he Forest Service, camping overall in government campgrounds is down by 30% and it is getting pretty chilly at night since we're at 4300 ft...the past several nights has been down in the mid 30's...time to blow this Popsicle stand!
