Where in the World are the Margolins? travel blog

this way to home...

cape town

It feels just like home... well sort of. As we drove into Cape Town we enjoyed the many similarities to San Francisco. We stayed in the city a few days and then ventured off into "up country" as Africans call it. The area down town is built around the port. There are dramatic mountains encircling much of the city. We spent some time exploring the V&A Waterfront and a few other sights.

The next few days we spent in and around the wine country. There are several main regions for grape production within two hours of Cape Town. Stellenbosch is the closest wine growing town and very similar to Napa Valley. We stayed just on the outside of the main town. The area was settled around turn of the 19th century. I believe the Dutch were the first western settlers. The next valley to the northeast is called Franshook. This is a French settled town similar to Sonoma Valley in CA. Both towns still have heritage based upon their origin. The cuisine and scenery were fantastic in both.
