If you're reading this then right now Gareth and Helen are on a 10 hour 800km roadtrip in to the tropics.
Life is hard!
Yes - We finally got to Airlie Beach, after driving for about 13 hrs that day. We dropped off Simon (who we met on Fraser Island) at Town 1770, which gave us a chance to check that area out. The drive was long and 5 hours of it were covered during the night, but over all it was trouble free and fun. Helen enjoyed "resting her eyes" for most of the journey and the sun was shining for all of the day! Great fun!
After we got to Airlie Beach, the hostel pretty much cocked up our booking, putting us in seperate rooms. After driving for 13 hrs, Gareth was in no mood for jokes and "dealt with" the situation. The upgrade that we then recieved helped to quell the anger in his eyes.
Airlie is 100% built around backpackers. The main street is made up entirely of backpackers hostels, pubs, sailing companies (for the Whitsunday Islands) and other related companies (Dominos, camping shops etc). There are backpackers everywhere. I can't see luggage for backpacks. Or something.
Anyway. So now you know!
The weather in Airlie looked ominous.
Lots of love Gareth and Helen x x x
