We spent the second part of our Saturday trip into San Diego exploring the Gaslamp District and the Convention Center. We parked and walked the 16 block area that comprises the Gaslamp Quarter. It gets it name from all the gas lamps that light the streets dating back to the 1920's. It was originally a port city used by vagrants, prostitutes and the occasional visiting sailor. It is now home to more than 200 restaurants, nightclubs & bars. It takes on a whole different look at night. Very fun place!

The Gaslamp Quarter is situated between downtown and the convention center that overlooks the waterfront. Very walkable. The Convention Center is on the east end of the gaslamp district. You cross over the trolley tracks and Marina Drive and you have arrived. We hiked the four sets of steep steps to the backside, which provides you with an awesome view of the Dole Pineapple Wharfs, Yacht Marina, Coronado Bridge & Navy ships. A spectacular view for sure! On the way back down the stairs to Gaslamp we could see Petco Ballpark. The Diamondback's happened to be in town this weekend. One of the many draws of San Diego is the easy accessibility to everything. It was another fun day exploring.
