NOOSA - Friday 8th December to Saturday 9th December (Days 42 & 43)

Arrived in Noosa after a morning 5 hour bus journey from Hervey Bay. Noosa is an upmarket resort on the Sunshine Coast, very similar to Port Douglas in far north Queensland. We had a lovely apartment for 2 nights right on the main street, Hastings street, which is full of boutiques, surf shops, and cafes. But the real reason for our stop was it is an excellent place to surf!

I booked a 2 hour surfing lesson for 9am on the Saturday morning with supposedly Australia's number one learn to surf outfit - they would need to be to get me standing in only 2 hours! Anyway there were about 20 people there, including a number of kids. We were split into groups of about 7 with a teacher. We were allocated a surfboard, the teacher took one look at me and allocated me a board known as 'The Beast'! Gill had decided to sit this activity out and watched as we began the lesson in the usual format of being shown what to do on the sand first. Then it was straight into the water. Noosa Main Beach is known as a good place to learn as the surf doesn't get too big - unfortunately on the Saturday I was there it was raging!!!! Anyway for the next 2 hours I battled the surf and somehow managed to get a few descent efforts in, much credit to them. Although I did nearly kill at least 2 kids by heading out of control straight at them! They were only saved by their teacher pushing me out the way. Anyway at the end of the lesson I was completely knackered with a sore rib, bruised finger, and damaged big toe! I thoroughly enjoyed it!!!!!!
