We landed in Fiji to learn our flight was cancelled and we have been re-booked 14 hours later. The Fiji airport is like my sister's apartment in Manhattan. About 600 sq feet. Luckily they put us up in a hotel for the day and we have been catching up on rest and eating pan fried sirloin that is impossible to cut with utensils made by man.
We are waiting in Fiji to leave for Auckland at 7pm Saturday which is 1am Friday Night/Saturday Morning CST.
Well once again our plane is delayed. Flight is scheduled to leave at 8:45pm - So in total since we have left Chicago - We have experienced over 24 hours in delays and crossed the international dateline. So we are 4 days into the trip and have yet to stop travelling. We did meet a fellow American Traveller, Justin, from Reno. He is coming to Auckland to visit a friend and go back-packing. He has actually walked all three major trails in the US - The Appalachian trail, The Continental Divide, and The Pacific Trail. He has walked over 10,000 miles in the US alone. Sometimes by himself!
We arrived in New Zealand at 1215am (Sunday morning) - to wait to go through customs for over a hour. Lauren was exhausted and EXTREMELY irritated by the "Goose cough girl", a woman from Canada that coughed the entire flight and while we were waiting to get through customs. Seeing how irritable she got - I will make sure, if I ever have a cough that sounds like a goose - to make sure Lauren is not around.
We were picked up at the airport by the nicest woman we have ever met. We have heard that the people here are nice - but this is a whole new perspective. She greated us with kisses and was very helpful in what to do on our trip. The Hotel we are staying at is a five star + The Stamford - very nice.
