KAPOORS ON THE ROAD
We had only just overcome our jetlag from our trip to Mexico and Colombia, when our son invited us both to come to Hawaii for a visit and to see our two grandchildren in action in the swimming pool of their rented house. We last saw the children in Calgary just before Christmas, and then the family headed off to Oahu in early January.
This will be the last year that they have the freedom to escape most of the Calgary winter by going to live in Hawaii for several months. The children start school in the fall and they will be busy with the activities there; only short getaways will be possible from here on in.
We decided if we were going to fly that far, we would take the time to visit both Oahu and the Big Island. Four years ago we travelled to Kauai with our daughter and her husband for two weeks; now we would have the opportunity to see yet another island. Anil and I have always been fascinated by volcanoes and the Big Island is famous for being the youngest of the Hawaiian Islands and for have active lava flows from time to time.
It would have been rather hard to leave beautiful Victoria, because the days are getting longer, the rains are getting less frequent and the city is just bursting with spring flowers. However, the joy of spending with the little ones and visiting new destinations makes up for anything we’d miss at home.
