Overland Through Laos travel blog

I plan to leave Siem Reap on 7th Sept going by shared taxi to Anlong Veng and cross the border into Thailand. I will be taking the bus to Ubon Rachathani in Thailand; where I plan to meet up with Mick Larkin.

Mick came to Peace Of Angkor Villa for a few days in 2006 and ended up 2-3 weeks. He is teaching in Ubon now so look forward to having a few beers.

I then plan to go to Paxse in South Laos for a few days

I will try to continue north along the Mekong by boat where possible via the colonial town of Savannakhet on Mekong

At Vientiane I will be going on a short trek for a few days then continue by road to Luang Prabang

Depending on time I will either travel overland via Vientiane to Bangkok or fly.

I am more or less forced to fly out of Thailand as travelers from Cambodia have to have a confirmed air reservation to be allowed to enter the country.

To avoid being ripped off by the gangsters of the air Bangkok Airways ($198 single to Siem Reap)I will fly Air Asia ($67) to Phnom Penh.

The Trip to P Penh will tie in nicely as I need to replace my passport and hope to meet Ian and Erica Kemp who took our 23 day all Cambodia tour 2 years ago. They are on a trip to south Cambodia and Laos
